Real tolerance is not just tolerating for the sake of tolerating - it is tolerating difficulties in order to give pleasure to Krishna, and to serve others.
The perfection of Yoga, is to become detached. The perfection of detachment is to become completely attached. The only reason we want to be detached from selfish desires is because they impede our attachment to Krishna.
Each moment of life is infinitely precious, if we utilize it for the purpose that Lord Krishna has given.
We have to be very enthusiastic and eager to accomplish wonderful things for Krishna, but it must always be with a focus on the higher principle. It always must be harmonised with this higher principle of what will please Krishna.
To love someone in the spiritual sense, it’s not based on how I want to love you; it’s based on what you want. That is love.
Krishna Consciousness means to see everything in relation to the higher principle of devotional service - what would please Krishna.
Things that really have nothing to do with us, nothing to do with reality - obsess us, possess us, rule over us, and cause us to fight, to battle, to become envious, angry. We can only overcome these things when we experience something higher. That’s the real solution.
Krishna is great, devotion is great, and the satisfaction of Bhakti is great. When we have some connection to that, some experience with that, then all of these little things - we see them for what they are, we see that Maya means that which is not.
A definition of love is the capacity to endlessly forgive.
If we withhold the free choice to forgive someone, we remain a victim of the person who has hurt us or abused us.
Krishna said, that “Worshipping My devotee, is better than worshipping Me; it gives Me more satisfaction.” Prabhupada said you can show your love for me by how you co-operate, and what real co-operation is based on not just tolerating each other, that’s the minimal, at least we should try to do that much.
In the Christian world, they often say, God is love. But what does that mean? In great scriptures like Srimad Bhagvatam, it describes what love is and who God is, and what is that love. “It is only by devotion that I can be understood as I am.” Devotion is the eternal natural energy of the soul. And what is devotion about?
Why is it that within the heart of every living being, there is, the deep necessity for affection? The Srimad Bhagvatam, the Bhagvad-gita, and all the great holy scriptures in the world explain why – it is because we are part of Krishna. Prema is the eternal nature of the soul, to love and to serve. And what is the greatest enjoyment in that love? Simply affection.
We have this body - so we can neglect our body because its maya, or we could use our body in the service of Krishna. Which is the higher principal? One is an expression of love and one is just a very small-minded idea of trying to be free from karma. The impersonalists are very much careful not to implicate themselves in karma, but devotees understand the positive side
Kunti said it after all the difficulties are over, vipadasantu tah sasvat....she said let the difficulties and the calamities come again and again. We never heard that prayer whilst the calamities were happening - we heard that after they were over, because she had a realization though it all. She was ready to go through it all again because she understood it is what that made her turn to Krishna.
Srila Prabhupada has told us the best prayer, the culmination of prayers is, “How can I serve you?” That is a prayer of love. To love means to serve, “How can I serve you my Lord?” And to serve according to our own particular whims and our own particular preference is not a very high level of service.
